What is an internet cookie?

Internet cookies are also known as HTTP, web or browser cookies. Internet cookies are just small pieces of information which is sent from a web server at the time of accessing or browsing the website. It’s stored as text strings on your computer internet explorer and maintains browsing history and previous state information. Internet cookies are stored your viewed website preferences and entered, the user credential (login ID, email ID, password, address, Name etc.) which use for every time you visit that particular website. E.g. It allows you to auto login into a website which you visited and provided login credential before (Google Email site). Internet Cookies are stored for a month and years and on unless you are not clear or deleting it. It does not contain viruses or threat, but it may put your privacy on a threat by tracking site like advertising sites you visited.

Internet explorer browsers allow or block cookies setting is set to medium by default which only allows trusted cookies. But you can block, disable, or delete all internet cookies as well as also enable or disable specific website cookies. I am going to guide you further step by step how to set your cookies.

Note- This information applies to Windows internet explorer 7 and above version (IE 8, IE 9, IE 10)

How to disable or enable all cookies

Note: – blacking all cookies will be affecting some web pages or sites displaying correctly.

  • Open Internet Explorer, You find it on quick launch or desktop shortcut. It has also opened by clicking the Start button > All programs and then clicking Internet Explorer.
  • On the menu bar, select the Tools button > and then click Internet Options.
  • Go to the Privacy tab > under Settings (select a setting for the Internet Zone), move the slider to the top to block all cookies or to the bottom to allow all cookies, and then select Apply > OK.

Note: - For each stage of sliders read the detail description which web sites are going to block or allow cookies at that privacy level. Detail about cookie type check out the last section of the article.

How to enable or disable internet cookies from specific websites

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • On the menu bar, select the Tools button > and then click Internet Options.
  • Go to Privacy tab> select Sites > per site privacy Action window will be open.
  • In the Address of website box, type a website address, as you type, as the list of Web Pages that you have already visited will be displayed. You can select a website from the list and then click Block or Allow as per your requirement. That link will be displayed in the Address of website box.
  • You can allow or block multiple website’s cookies. Once you are finished, click OK.

How to delete cookies

  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • On the menu bar, select the Tools button > and then click Internet Options.
  • Go to the General tab > under Browsing history > click Delete.
  • Find the Cookies and website data tick mark check box and press delete button > click yes >Close
  • At last say OK to exit the window.

Different Types of Internet Cookies

Temporary cookies: - Temporary cookies also called and session cookies. Web site uses it for store temporary information which will be removed once an internet explorer closed.

Persistent cookies: - Persistent or saved cookies are stored on the computer even closed the internet explorer and same will be used for the next time you visit the website. Persistent cookies can remain on your computer for days, months, or even years unless you delete it manually.

First-party cookies: - It can become from current website you are browsing or viewing which can be persistent or temporary in nature.

Third-party cookies: - It comes from other websites’ like advertisements (such as pop-up or banner ads) on the current website that you are viewing (Product buys sell site).

    That is nice share Vasant. The most people not aware about this. Usually they keep deleting their cookies directly from browser or sometime they now allow cookies even. This will let them allow to control their cookies.
